AC Milan prepares fresh €40 million January move for Gonçalo Inácio

AC Milan is preparing to return for Gonçalo Inácio in January, with Sporting CP’s center-back still a priority for Ruben Amorim, according to Corriere dello Sport’s Antonio Vitiello. The proposed move would revive a transfer that broke down late in the summer window.

The September 26 report says Sporting had accepted a fee of around €40 million before the deal stalled because it could not secure a replacement. Milan is expected to work from a similar figure when it renews its approach.

Amorim helped establish Inácio in Sporting’s first team during the 2020-21 campaign and, according to the report, believes the defender has continued to improve since their time together. Their previous working relationship gives Milan a clear reason to revisit the target.

Sporting has protected its position. The club extended Inácio’s contract through 2030 last December, keeping a player who joined its academy at 11 and went on to captain the senior side. By the time of that announcement, he had won every major domestic trophy in Portugal.

That background would give Milan an experienced addition accustomed to the expectations of a title contender. Moving to Serie A would bring different opponents and a new defensive unit, although working with a familiar coach could help the transition.

Record’s account of the Italian report puts Inácio’s release clause at €60 million. An agreement around the reported €40 million figure would require Sporting’s consent.

Milan reintegrated Fikayo Tomori after the summer attempt failed, but still wants greater depth in central defense. Inácio would answer that need while giving Amorim a player whose strengths he already knows.
