“A massive win” Arteta delighted Arsenal won at tough Villa Park

Mikel Arteta believes Arsenal’s win at Villa Park yesterday was a massive result for the team, as the Gunners demonstrated why they are the defending champions.

Villa Park is one of the hardest places for any team to visit because Aston Villa have a strong team and a very good manager who knows what it takes to secure results.

The Villans have lost several of their best players during this transfer window, yet they still managed to field a team capable of causing Arsenal problems. They did everything possible to prevent the Gunners from finding much joy in the match, forcing Arteta’s side to work extremely hard before eventually finding a way to win.

It was not a classic performance from either team, but Arsenal will be delighted to have secured the result as they look ahead to more victories. The Gunners showed determination and resilience to claim all three points from a difficult fixture.

Arteta was delighted and relieved that his players returned from the encounter with all three points. The Spaniard also highlighted the contribution of Arsenal’s substitutes, who helped the team see out the victory.

“Really happy. A massive win. A tough place to come and earn the three points. I think we deserved it. A great squad performance, because when 11 wasn’t enough the finishers game in and did a magnificent job to finish off the game.

Arteta also remembered Arsenal’s previous defeat at Villa Park, making this victory even more satisfying for the Gunners. The painful manner of that loss had clearly remained with the manager and his players.

“Last year we lost here in a really difficult way, with the last kick of the game. And that was still in the tummy.”

The victory therefore carried significance beyond the three points. Arsenal had struggled at Villa Park previously, but they showed the character required to overcome another difficult challenge.

Villa made the match uncomfortable and restricted Arsenal’s attacking opportunities, yet the Gunners remained patient and continued working until they found the decisive breakthrough.

For Arteta, the result demonstrated the strength of his squad and the importance of having players capable of making an impact from the bench. Arsenal can now take confidence from the victory as they continue their title defence.
