Marc Guehi played in midfield as Manchester City beat Bournemouth 2-1 on the opening weekend of the 2026-27 Premier League season. Guehi played extremely well in an unfamiliar role which illustrated his importance to Enzo Maresca’s side. City beat Crystal Palace 4-1 in impressive fashion on Friday night to make it two wins from their opening two matches of the new season. Guehi was moved back to his familiar role at centre-back against his former side and he put in another extremely strong display. The England international has begun the 2026-27 season in strong form as his importance to his team continues to grow.

Marc Guehi was again superb for Manchester City in their win over Crystal Palace.

Manchester City didn’t have it all their own way in their 4-1 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. The hosts did get at Enzo Maresca’s side throughout Friday night’s match. At the back, Marc Guehi, alongside Ruben Dias, helped quell the threat that Pierre Sage’s side posed. Guehi in particular was exceptional in reading the threat that Palace posed.

Marc Guehi’s ability to read any danger and deal with it appropriately was superb at Selhurst Park. Any time Palace came down his channel, Guehi played primarily as the left-sided centre-back, and he was there to make the challenges that he needed. When on the ball, Guehi was very good and his calmness in possession helped Enzo Maresca’s side dominate possession. In terms of an all-round performance from a centre-back, Guehi put in a fine display at Selhurst Park against his former team.

In two matches this season, Guehi has been exceptional. The England international has already shown his importance to his team and he is entrenched as a key component of the Manchester City lineup already.
