67 teams take part in Delaware Online High School Basketball Media Day
Schools from Archmere to Delmar gathered at the Chase Center on the Riverfront in Wilmington for the Delaware Online High School Basketball Media Day, presented by Delaware Orthopaedic Specialists, on Nov. 5.
The annual event drew a record 67 teams.
Girls and boys basketball teams statewide were invited to participate in portrait photo shoots and video interviews, share camaraderie with their opponents and dine.
“I think it’s a great event, an opportunity to connect with coaches and players that you interact with during the season,” said Rahsaan Matthews Sr., Howard boys basketball head coach. “I think everybody is excited about basketball starting back up. It’s great to get these guys some exposure.”
“I didn’t do this in the past, but I’m excited,” said Archmere junior Anaya Mungin. “I had a good interview over there. I was asked who my favorite basketball player is – Tyrese Maxey. I feel like I’m going to have to be like him. Be a leader for his team. We’re not the 76ers, but I’m going to have to be a leader for Archmere.”
The Riverfront Development Corp. provided the venue, a ballroom in the Chase Center on the Riverfront. ShopRite of Wilmington provided lunch.
Hundreds of photos from the event will be published on Delaware Online over the coming weeks. Dozens of interviews will be compiled and edited into entertaining videos that will be published on the website and on social media throughout the basketball season.
Preseason practice begins Nov. 9, leading up to the start of the regular season the first week of December. Then the scramble will be on as Howard works to defend its 2025-26 DIAA boys championship and St. Elizabeth tries to repeat as girls champions.
