6 position battles to watch at Titans training camp

Finally, it’s about to get real at Tennessee Titans training camp when the team takes to the field on Monday, and the pads go on, allowing the competition to truly begin.

The Titans still have plenty of questions to answer during training camp, and the combination of performance and physicality will definitely influence the final decisions at some key positions.

So, where do those battles sit heading into the heart of training camp? Here is a breakdown of the position battles after one week of practice.

Veteran Austin Schlottmann came into camp in front of rookie Pat Coogan and Andre James, and nothing changed during the first week of practice. Schlottmann took the majority of first-team reps and received praise from some of his teammates for his leadership. Like all of the offensive line competition, his work in preseason games and joint practices will be critical, but for now it’s his spot to lose.

Cordell Volson got the first crack to win the starting job, but has been splitting reps with Jackson Slater. This may be the most competitive of the offensive line battles, and will be a fun one to watch once the pads go on.

This position battle was often overlooked during the offseason, but it is definitely one to keep an eye on. Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson and Austin Deculus are splitting reps, and through one week, neither has looked good. Hopefully, they improve as camp moves forward. If they don’t, general manager Mike Borgonzi may have to look outside for help.

Not really sure how much of a battle this is, but head coach Robert Saleh claims that Will Levis will be given every chance to unseat Mitch Trubisky behind Cam Ward. Through one week, it’s clear Levis has not done enough and will have to become more consistent to even have a chance.

The Titans’ wide receiver room is deep and will be fun to watch throughout training camp with Elic Ayomanor clearly battling Calvin Ridley to start, and Bryce Oliver, KJ Osborn, and Xavier Restrepo battling out down the depth chart. Oliver likely has an advantage with his special teams abilities, but it’s early.

After one week of camp, it’s clear Jaylen Harrell is not going down without a fight. Unfortunately, no one has any idea how many defensive linemen/edge rushers Tennessee will keep, and Harrell looks poised to make a push to be in the rotation.
