5 MCU Superheroes Spider-Man Could Fight In Brand New Day's Sequel

· · 7 min read

What happened in Spider-Man: Brand New Day goes to show that the wallcrawler’s own villains aren’t the only potential opponents he can face in his MCU appearances. When Tom Holland returns to the role of Spider-Man for his next solo adventure, it shouldn’t come as a surprise if he comes to blows with one of his fellow heroes.

His fight record overall is indicative of a strong tendency to pit Spider-Man against not just members of his rogues’ gallery, but prominent Marvel Comics superheroes. His battles with Giant Man, Captain America, Falcon, and Winter Soldier fit in with the central formula of Captain America: Civil War, but Spider-Man’s superhero infighting extended beyond the film.

Peter had a noteworthy battle with Doctor Strange in Spider-Man: No Way Home, followed by a fight with the Hulk in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. What’s more, he spent nearly the entirety of the movie trying to bring down a mysterious threat who turned out to be none other than X-Men icon Jean Grey. These events, coupled with the longstanding trend of having Spider-Man share the screen with major MCU figures in his movies, make more superhero vs. superhero showdowns a real possibility for the next installment in the series.

As for who he could fight next, Marvel has all sorts of interesting avenues available to it. The fifth solo Spider-Man movie could take a cue from Brand New Day and feature another prominent mutant character or the debut of a major Marvel superhero currently missing from the MCU. Alternatively, it could borrow an existing character who hasn’t yet had a chance to interact with Peter Parker on the big screen.

Iceman

With Marvel seemingly bracing for a mutant-centric chapter after the Multiverse Saga concludes in Avengers: Secret Wars, characters from X-Men comics could bleed into other projects, not unlike how Jean Grey turned out to be critical to Brand New Day’s plot. If that’s the case, its sequel could have a mutant guest star of its own. Among the most appealing options for that would be Iceman, who shares a key connection with Peter both in the comic books and on TV.

In the aftermath of the death of Gwen Stacy’s father, which Spider-Man took the blame for, Peter found himself the target of Iceman. In standard superhero fashion, the two fought but ultimately resolved their misunderstanding and teamed up. A decade later, Iceman formed a now-famous trio with Spider-Man and Firestar in the animated series, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends. A Brand New Day sequel could embrace that nostalgia with an appearance from Iceman, who is on track to exist as an MCU character soon. Ben Wang is reportedly in talks to play Iceman in the 2028 X-Men reboot.

Human Torch

Depending on how the MCYU leaves things in regards to the various realities set to converge in Avengers: Doomsday and presumably Avengers: Secret Wars, there may be an opening for characters currently residing on Earth-828 to meet the heroes of Earth-616. If that happens, Marvel Studios can arrange one of Marvel Comics’ greatest partnerships – Spider-Man and the Human Torch. The two have quarreled many times over the years, but usually find themselves on the same side of a fight before it’s over.

The MCU can honor their respective histories by making the Fantastic Four hero a major part of Spider-Man’s next live-action movie. With his ability to control fire and cover his body in flames, Joseph Quinn’s Human Torch would present a great challenge to Spider-Man’s intellect, as he would have to figure out how to combat Johnny Storm’s signature power. But unlike Hulk’s role in Brand New Day, there’s a good chance any fight between Spider-Man and Human Torch would culminate in a team-up.

Shang-Chi

    &lt;<img src="https://static0.srcdn.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/simu-liu-is-facing-someone-in-shang-chi-and-the-legend-of-the-ten-rings.jpg?q=49&fit=crop&w=825&dpr=2" />

Shang-Chi lacks the superhuman powers of many of his contemporaries, and yet he would be in a great position to push Spider-Man to his limit. Spider-Man has faced struggles against the likes of Kraven the Hunter, Captain America, and Daredevil, despite being physically stronger than all of them. And the reason for that comes down to the gap in their hand-to-hand combat skills, something that Shang-Chi in particular has in abundance.

In modern comics, Spider-Man finally overcame that obstacle by learning martial arts straight from the Master of Kung Fu himself, Shang-Chi. A battle with Shang-Chi could lead to Spider-Man learning some similar lessons that could be helpful against whoever his next villain is in the MCU.

Namor The Sub-Mariner

    &lt;<img src="https://static0.srcdn.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/namor-in-black-panther-wakanda-forever.jpg?q=49&fit=crop&w=825&dpr=2" />

One of the most unexpected showdowns the MCU could set up for Spider-Man’s future would be a battle with Tenoch Huerta’s Namor the Sub-Mariner. Given Huerta’s return as Namor in Avengers: Doomsday, the character will continue to be relevant to the MCU after Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Assuming he survives the upcoming battle with Doctor Doom, he stands out as a character who could enjoy a much higher profile thanks to the movie’s potential to a record-breaking box office success.

Namor’s relationship with Spider-Man in Marvel Comics would translate seamlessly to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the 1970s and 1980s, Namor and Spider-Man had a number of run-ins, most of which were driven by Namor’s ego. To Namor, Spider-Man was a trivial nuisance more than he was a threat. But Spider-Man’s willingness and ability to fight back made him someone Namor could respect.

Because of the difference in their power levels, Spider-Man would use Namor’s weakness (the need to be hydrated) against him. But the results of this strategy were mixed, as the Sub-Mariner greatly outclasses Spider-Man in strength, even when weakened by being away from water.

An appearance in a Spider-Man movie would certainly be an interesting choice for Namor’s next role in the MCU, and perhaps one that could work out well for both characters. With his serious demeanor and Spider-Man’s humorous wit, the two could form a fun dynamic. The MCU has been largely accurate to the source material in terms of Namor’s powers and self-righteous attitude, so it’s not hard to imagine the two having a version of their comic book interactions were they to meet on the big screen.

Wolverine

It’s true that the MCU is ushering in its own interpretation of the X-Men via the younger cast for the 2028 reboot, but that’s not to say certain characters reintroduced from Fox’s movies won’t stick around. There are indications that Hugh Jackman will make his second MCU appearance in Avengers: Doomsday – and given the popularity of his take on the character, it’s possible it won’t be the last either. A team-up with Deadpool in 2023 was seen as a dream pairing, and something similar could be said of a potential Wolverine-Spider-Man movie.

Like Wolverine and Deadpool, Spider-Man and Logan have a dynamic that can sometimes be contentious. And based on how quick-tempered Wolverine can be, it wouldn’t difficult for an MCU film to arrange a fight between the two if they were to cross paths. With Spider-Man’s spectacular agility and Spider Sense, there’s no question that he could be a pain for Wolverine to deal with, but landing just one blow with his adamantium claws could prove fatal for Peter.

Such a scenario could come to pass even without Hugh Jackman. The 2028 X-Men reboot may prioritize its younger heroes, whilst saving Wolverine for later. If so, the sequel to Spider-Man: Brand New Day could be an ideal place to introduce the Wolverine of Earth-616, a character who already boasts a significant degree of setup.
