The San Francisco 49ers are set to take on the Dolphins in Week 2 and have a chance to go 2-0 to begin the season. However, the club may have some kicker woes for this upcoming matchup, as Eddy Pineiro has yet to practice throughout the week leading up to Sunday’s game.

Reports indicate that the 31-year-old kicker missed his third straight practice on Friday, according to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area. The concern should become more prevelent for 49ers fans, as the team has not worked out any kickers as a backup plan in case Pineiro cannot play.

“K Eddy Pineiro (illness) was not at practice for the third day in a row,” Maiocco reported. “The 49ers, up to this point, have not brought in another kicker for a workout.”

The seven-year veteran, along with rookie running back Kaelon Black, are both listed as questionable for the game against the Dolphins, per Maiocco. After initially not working out any kickers, head coach Kyle Shanahan informed media members that the 49ers will at least workout a kicker about nearly 30 minutes after the report.

“RB Kaelon Black (groin) and K Eddy Pineiro (illness) are questionable for the 49ers’ Week 2 game against the Dolphins,” Maiocco said. “Kyle Shanahan said they’ll bring in a K to try out.”

Pineiro turned out to be a consistent kicker for San Francisco last season. In 14 games he made 28 out of 29 of his attempts, giving him a league-high 96.6% field goal percentage. He was also 89.5% in extra-point attempts, going 34-38 in those kicks. Eddy Pineiro’s play was so efficient, San Francisco gave him a $17 million contract extension during the offseason.
