35-year-old man stabbed to death in Niger, nine arrested

The Niger State Police Command has arrested nine suspects following the stabbing to death of a 35-year-old man, Nafiu Mohammed, in the Maitumbi area of Minna.

Mohammed, of Sabon-Titi, Maitumbi, was reportedly attacked and stabbed on August 25, 2026.

The police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, in a statement said operatives attached to Maitumbi Division responded to the incident and rushed the victim to a nearby medical facility, where he was confirmed dead.

Following the incident, tactical teams were deployed to the area, leading to the arrest of six suspects identified as Emmanuel Moses, 25; Lukman Mohammed, 25; Abdullahi Mohammed, 19; Sani Ibrahim, 18; Abdullahi Yusuf, 22, also known as Challo; and Adamu Isyaku, 20.

The command stated that Sani Ibrahim was arrested with a long cutlass.

According to the police, the suspects mentioned one Muhammad Sani as being responsible for the death of Mohammed, adding that efforts were ongoing to arrest him.

The six suspects are being held for investigation into alleged criminal conspiracy and thuggery, the command said.

In a separate operation on the same day, police operatives raided suspected blackspots along the Maitumbi-Gwada Road and arrested three other suspects.

The suspects include  Nura Murtala, 19; Idris Aliyu, 19; and Haruna Ibrahim, 21, all of Saiko.

The police PRO said the three suspects were found with suspected cannabis, a cutlass, four scissors and shisha pipes with pots.

The command added that suspects will be charged to court after investigation.
