2027: Reject APC, learn from Americans - ADC to Nigerians

· · 2 min read

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has urged Nigerians to learn from the outcome of the United States midterm elections and reject the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2027 general elections.

The party said Americans demonstrated the power of the ballot box by delivering what it described as a political tsunami against the ruling Republican Party over its leadership and economic policies.

The ADC made the call in a press statement issued on Wednesday and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi.

According to the party, the outcome of the US elections showed that political power ultimately belongs to the people and that no political party is entitled to remain in power indefinitely.

“Americans have shown that when politicians become arrogant, when policies punish ordinary people, and when those in power mistake popularity for a permanent licence to govern, the ballot box remains the ultimate instrument of accountability,” the statement said.

The party added that Nigerians must understand that elections should be determined by citizens’ welfare rather than political sentiments, loyalties or personality cults.

“American voters understand something Nigerians must also learn: elections are about the welfare of the citizens, not sentiments, political loyalties or personality cults. No leader is bigger than the people, and no political party is entitled to power forever,” it said.

The ADC accused President Bola Tinubu-led APC government of subjecting Nigerians to years of economic hardship, worsening insecurity and dwindling opportunities.

It questioned why Nigerians should give the ruling party another mandate despite the challenges facing the country.

“We cannot continue to complain about the cost of living while voting for a President who has made life unaffordable. We cannot demand security while rewarding failure.

“We cannot earnestly yearn for change while sustaining the very political system responsible for our collective impoverishment,” the party stated.

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the ADC urged Nigerians to use their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, to demand political change.

“History beckons in 2027. Our voters’ cards must become instruments of change, not souvenirs of citizenship. Nigerians must turn out massively and vote for their own interests,” it said.

The opposition party also described itself and its candidates as an alternative to the APC-led government, outlining its campaign promises under the slogan, “Make Nigeria Affordable Again. Make Nigeria Safe Again. Give Nigerians Jobs Again.”

The ADC urged Nigerians to emulate American voters by using their votes to demand better governance in the next general elections.

“If Americans can use their votes to demand better, Nigerians can do the same. In 2027, let our votes speak louder than the APC-induced suffering,” the statement added.
