2027 Pierre Elliott Trudeau Scholarship Details

The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Scholarship is designed to support doctoral researchers who demonstrate academic excellence while showing a strong commitment to leadership, community engagement and making an impact beyond their academic work.

The Foundation’s leadership program focuses on developing Scholars through mentorship, experiential learning and engagement with different perspectives.

As part of the program, Scholars are expected to participate actively in Foundation activities and contribute to their communities throughout their scholarship period.

During the first year, Scholars participate in in-person and digital events, including specially designed leadership institutes and retreats.

In the second year, Scholars collectively organize an Impact Conference, which they present during the third year of the leadership program.

Scholars are also expected to contribute at least 30 hours of volunteer service or community initiatives each year and report their activities to the Foundation.

The program also encourages Scholars to develop greater proficiency in Canada’s official languages, English and French, while becoming more familiar with Indigenous languages through the leadership program.

To be considered for the 2027 Pierre Elliott Trudeau Scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Applicants must already be accepted into, or be in the first or second year of a full-time doctoral program.
• Applicants must be expected to complete their doctoral studies in 2026 or later.
• The applicant’s field of study should be broadly related to the humanities or human sciences and have direct relevance to Canada’s future.
• The doctoral research must relate to at least one of the Foundation’s four themes:
