Bagos polled 12,181 votes to defeat Bitrus, who secured 2,495 votes in the exercise conducted following a court-ordered rerun in 11 wards across the constituency.

The result was announced on Thursday by the Chairman of the Planning Committee for the rerun election, Mr. Simon Karu, at the APC secretariat, Kalwa House, Jos.

The rerun followed a judgment of the High Court in Jos, which identified irregularities in the previous primary election in Du, Shen, Zawan ‘B’, Turu, Fobur ‘A’, Fobur ‘B’, Jarawan Kogi, Mai Juju/Doss, Federe, Shere East and Shere West wards.

Reacting to his victory while addressing supporters who gathered at his residence in Jos, Bagos expressed gratitude to the people of Jos South and Jos East for their support, prayers and confidence throughout the process.

“I want to sincerely thank the people of Jos South and Jos East for standing by me throughout this process. Your support, prayers and confidence in me have given me the strength to continue,” he said.

The lawmaker called on party members, supporters and constituents to remain united and work towards securing victory for the APC in the 2027 general election.

“I am appealing to everyone to support us in the general election. This victory is not for me alone; it is a victory for all of us and a responsibility to work together for the development of our constituency,” Bagos said.

He cautioned his supporters against insults, verbal attacks, and inflammatory remarks against political opponents, stressing the need to preserve peaceful relationships despite differences arising from the contest.

“I want to appeal to our people not to insult anybody. Do not abuse your opponents or those who contested against us. Politics should not divide us because after the election, we will still remain brothers and sisters,” the former lawmaker said.

Bagos urged his supporters to celebrate the victory with humility and extend a hand of friendship to other aspirants, noting that the primary election was only one stage in the broader political process ahead of 2027.

“We must celebrate with humility. Let us not insult or provoke anybody. We have won the primary, but there is still a bigger task ahead of us,” he added.

The APC aspirant also commended Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, for what he described as the development strides recorded by his administration across the state.

“I want to appreciate our Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, for the development strides he has recorded in Plateau State. We recognise the efforts being made by his administration to move the state forward,” Bagos said.

He reiterated the need for unity, peace and collective commitment to the development of Plateau State, urging his supporters to focus on the welfare of the people and the task ahead of the 2027 general election.
