2026 U-20 WWC: Akekoromowei scoops POTM in Falconets’ win over England

Janet Akekoromowei was named Player of the Match following Nigeria’s 3-0 win over England in their Round of 16 encounter at the 2026 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Tosin Rafiu got things going for the Falconets with a contender for Goal of the Tournament in the eighth minute.

The midfielder attacked down the left wing, weaved her way inside and out to bamboozle the England defence and rifled the ball past goalkeeper Katie Cox.

Akekoromowei extended the advantage with a well-taken left-footed volley two minutes after the break.

it was the Benfica striker’s second goal of the tournament.

Substitute Mary Mamudu sealed a thoroughly-deserved victory for Moses Aduku’s side 17 minutes from time.

Nigeria will now meet the winner of Poland-Colombia in Lodz on Sunday.
