2026 NBA Draft: Nets have shown particular interest in Mikel Brown Jr.

The Brooklyn Nets are less than one week away from the 2026 NBA Draft where they will have to make a choice with the No. 6 overall pick. Brooklyn has been linked to various players over the course of the pre-draft process as they continue to do their due diligence, but one of the players projected to go to the Nets has drawn more interest from the team.

“Amid a belief in some corners that the Nets are open to trading their pick while playing host to the draft itself at Barclays Center, sources say that they have indeed shown particular interest in Brown,” NBA insider Jake Fischer wrote of the Nets’ interest in Louisville guard Mikel Brown Jr. Brown is one of the players that have been projected to go to Brooklyn and it seems like the reporting on the outcome is intensifying.

“That would appear to run counter to any moving-down suggestions,” Fischer continued while noting that Brooklyn doesn’t seem to be to be leaning towards trading out of the No. 6 spot. “I’m told that the Nets have visited Central Florida to audition Brown on his turf and then also hosted him last Thursday for Brown’s first in-person visit in this draft cycle.”

Over the course of the offseason, the Nets have been connected to Brown as well as players like Arkansas guard Darius Acuff Jr. and Tennessee forward Nate Ament. Brown has seen his stock rise since the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago last month so it makes sense that he is regarded as more of a top-10 pick than a late Lottery pick when officials weren’t sure if his back injury healed.

Brown finished his freshman season with the Cardinals with averages of 18.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game while shooting 41.0% from the field and 34.4% from behind the three-point line. Time will tell if the Nets end up selecting Brown with the No. 6 pick, but as it stands, it seems that Brooklyn is becoming more interested in Brown as the draft draws closer.
