2026 Ballon d’Or: There’s no one like him – Romero names player that should win

Atletico Madrid defender, Cuti Romero, has said Argentina captain Lionel Messi deserves to win the 2026 Ballon d’Or.

Romero, speaking with ESPN, also claimed that his compatriot should win the award until he retires from football.

“The Ballon d’Or should be given to Leo Messi. Until he retires, that’s clear.

“There is no one like him. Surely when he decides not to play anymore, then we will have to see who to give it to!”

Messi has won a record eight Ballon d’Or awards during his illustrous career.

The 39-year-old has also been included in the 30-man nominees’ shortlist for this year’s prize.
