2 under-the-radar Jaguars defenders positioned to make a roster push

The opportunity for two under-the-radar Jacksonville Jaguars defenders could be available in the coming weeks.

While nothing was set in stone at the start of training camp, Jabbar Muhammad and Christian Braswell seemed to be the favorites to round out the back end of the Jaguars‘ cornerback room. Muhammad had a very good showing during offseason programs, while Braswell saw steady playing time during the second half of last season.

Unfortunately, Braswell has dealt with an injury during training camp. He has yet to see the practice field, and there is no timetable for his return.

This has opened the door for others to make a roster push, specifically Devon Marshall and Keni-H Lovely.

John Shipley of Jaguars on SI wrote recently that both Marshall and Lovely are working with the top defensive backups in practice. Marshall, in particular, had a good performance during the Jaguars’ recent scrimmage.

“Undrafted rookie cornerback Devon Marshall has made some impressive plays over the course of training camp, and this continued during the scrimmage,” Shipley wrote. “Marshall has flashed in coverage against multiple Jaguars wide receivers.”

Marshall was an experienced college defender with excellent ball production, generating four interceptions and 20 pass breakups over his final two seasons.

Lovely has experience in Anthony Campanile’s defense, spending last year on the practice squad.

We will see if the dynamic changes when Braswell returns, but for now, a roster spot is potentially up for grabs with Marshall and Lovely seemingly in a position to make a run at it.
