PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Asterisk Talley made history on Saturday at Riviera Country Club. The 17-year-old posted a bogey-free, 5-under 66 in the third round — the lowest weekend round by an amateur in U.S. Women’s Open history.

“The hole was just so big, I mean, I couldn’t miss,” said Talley, who made the cut on the number.

Talley birdied the opening par 5 and was off and running. Birdies followed on Nos. 3, 6, 10 and 17. Key up-and-downs from the bunker on Nos. 15 and 16 kept the momentum going.

After squeaking inside the cut line on Friday, Talley went straight to the practice putting green to address what needed attention, skipping the range. She came back Saturday morning and began zooming up the board, cracking the top 20 as the leaders teed off.

Talley, a rising high school senior, finished up her final exams prior to this week in Chowchilla, California. She’ll stay in L.A. next week to make her second Curtis Cup appearance at Bel-Air Country Club.

“I mean, I was really hoping to qualify for this one because it was in California,” said Talley. “Once I qualified I was like, I’m here and I’m going enjoy it.”
